How Digi Girlies Guild Marked World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 with Purpose and Impact
On May 28th, 2025, Digi Girlies Guild joined the global community to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day with a special outreach program at Appiadu R/C JHS in Kumasi. This was not just a health education visit; it was an experience packed with learning, empowerment, and hope for the future.
Before the official session began, Miss Queenstar Brown, the Program Administrator, opened the gathering with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to Digi Girlies Guild. She shared the core purpose of the team; our vision to create a future where every girl has the knowledge, skills, and access to opportunities to lead and innovate in the field of technology, and our mission to equip less privileged teenage girls through mentorship, education, and holistic development programs with in-demand digital skills and knowledge. She also introduced the passionate team members and explained their various roles in the organization.
Recognizing the importance of the day, the focus was first placed on menstrual health education, a subject that is still surrounded by stigma and limited awareness in many communities.
The Founder of Digi Girlies Guild, Miss Gabriella, took the lead by delivering a detailed and interactive session on menstruation and menstrual hygiene. She explained the biological aspects of menstruation in a way that was both educational and age appropriate. Students were introduced to the female reproductive system, including a simple explanation of the four key stages of the menstrual cycle, the follicular phase, ovulation phase, luteal phase, and menstruation.
Gabriella didn’t stop there. She dove into the importance of menstrual hygiene, highlighting how poor practices can lead to infections, low self-esteem, and missed opportunities, especially in school. She gave practical advice on how to maintain proper hygiene, the safe disposal of used sanitary products, and the emotional support girls can offer one another during their cycles.
What made the session truly impactful was the level of engagement. The platform was opened for students to share their thoughts and ask personal questions. Many of them took the chance to talk freely, some for the first time, about their experiences, fears, and confusions surrounding menstruation. The open conversation helped break down barriers and created a safe space where the girls felt seen and heard.
To support these girls beyond just education, Digi Girlies Guild donated over 200 sanitary pads to the students and teachers. This gesture was deeply appreciated and is a reminder that access to basic menstrual products is still a challenge for many girls in low-income areas.
The event was an opportunity to reinforce the Guild’s broader message: that girls deserve to be educated, empowered, and equipped to thrive in every area of life, including technology. This is where our slogan “Exuding Digital Prowess” comes to life, not only are we building tech skills, but we are nurturing confidence, awareness, and leadership.
We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and donors who made this vision a reality. Without their support, this outreach would not have been possible. Their contributions ensured that we could provide not just education, but tangible resources that can positively impact a girl’s daily life.
As we reflect on this first major project as a team, we are filled with gratitude and motivation. We’ve seen the difference we can make, and we’re ready to do more. We’re calling on NGOs, corporate bodies, and individuals to support this cause. With more partnerships, we can reach more schools, train more girls, and expand our impact across Ghana and beyond.
